MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A jury found Darrell Peterson guilty of killing a Frayser grandmother in 2020.

Peterson was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

The shooting happened May 16, 2020, on Knob Drive in Frayser and claimed the life of 55-year-old Patricia Bryant, who was in her yard holding her baby grandson.

“My baby died right here in my arms because of some stupid, crazy human being got a gun in his hand,” James Bryant, Patricia’s husband, said after her death.

Investigators say a group of women was involved in an altercation when two of them began smashing windows at one residence. Moments later, Peterson drove up, shouted toward the crowd and fired several shots.

Peterson’s 20-year-old sister, Bernautica McClure, and 29-year-old Debra Prettie were indicted on counts of vandalism over $1,000 over the smashed windows.

Peterson will be sentenced July 1.
