WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (WMC) - Several people are in critical condition at Regional One Hospital after a multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler on the Hernando de Soto bridge Monday afternoon.
TDOT reported the crash at 4:05 p.m.
For over an hour afterward, I-40 Eastbound was blocked at the Arkansas-Tennessee state line due to the “major accident,” said Nick Coulter with the City of West Memphis.
Both West Memphis Fire and Memphis Fire units responded to the crash.
Coulter also said access to the scene was “very difficult” for Memphis firefighters, who drove the wrong way toward West Memphis to help transport victims.
“Multiple” patients were transported, but a specific number could not be provided.
