10-year-old boy found, reported missing after not returning home from school

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Police say 10-year-old Chase Smith has been located following a missing person report after he was dropped off at Westside Elementary School Wednesday around 8 a.m.

Police did not say what condition he was in or where he was found.

Initially, it was unclear if Chase had actually attended class the day he went missing; Shelby County Schools says he did.

A spokesperson with the district clarified Chase was in class the entire day and was dismissed as a “walker” at 3:15 p.m.

The district says it was not notified that Chase was reported missing Wednesday evening but is grateful to know he is safe.

Memphis police are searching for a missing 10-year-old boy named Chase Smith.

Memphis Police Department says he was dropped off at school Wednesday morning around 8 a.m. on Dawn Drive. It’s unclear if Chase attended class that day.

He was last seen wearing a gray Under Armour shirt with a neon green “X” on the front with orange and white Nike shoes.
