ESPN’s ‘First Take’ pulls out of Southern Heritage Classic appearance
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - ESPN’s “First Take” will no longer make an appearance at this year’s Southern Heritage Classic coming up next month.
The network committed to showcasing Historically Black Colleges and Universities with “First Take” but has since made the decision to cancel.
The Southern Heritage Classic, an annual game between Jackson State Tigers and the Tennessee State Tigers, was set to be a part of that showcase.
“First Take” released the following statement on the decision:
“After carefully considering all factors related specifically to First Take’s previously announced roadshows, we have made the difficult, yet necessary, decision to change from an on-site to virtual presence. We remain committed to showcasing and celebrating the importance of HBCUs through various platforms, beginning with a special edition of First Take from ESPN’s New York Seaport Studio on Aug. 27 ahead of the Cricket MEAC/SWAC Challenge Kickoff. As things continue to evolve, we look forward to exploring every potential opportunity for First Take to connect with fans on-site during future roadshows.”
The Southern Heritage Classic is set to kick off in Memphis Friday, Sept. 10.
