MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A family in West Memphis is mourning the loss of 11-year-old Jordyn Franklin who died from COVID-19.

Jordyn’s aunt, Kristen Clark, says she felt sick Friday and had a doctor’s appointment scheduled for Monday. As her family was preparing to head to that appointment, Jordyn’s condition worsened.

Jordyn’s family called for an ambulance, but she died before making it to the hospital.

Clark says she wants people to take COVID-19 seriously.

“We want Jordyn’s story to go as far as it possibly can to realize and to know that this is a real thing and you don’t know until it hits home,” said Clark.

A candlelight vigil will be held in Joydyn’s honor on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Jackson-Wonder Elementary where she attended school.

There is also a gofundme page that was started by Jordyn’s aunt to assist Jordyn’s family with funeral costs.
