Off-duty MPD officer involved in fatal crash at Timber Creek
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis Police say an off-duty officer is facing consequences after a fatal car accident Friday evening.
The crash happened at Walnut Grove and Timber Creek around 5 p.m.
The preliminary investigation reveals that vehicle #1, a Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on Walnut Grove at a high speed when vehicle #2, a Pontiac Bonneville, pulled from a private drive and was struck by vehicle #1.
Police say vehicle #2 split into two pieces causing one part of the car to strike vehicle #3, a Ford- F250, which was stopped in the westbound center turn lane.
The driver of vehicle #1, an off-duty MPD Officer, was transported to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition.
The driver and passenger of vehicle #2, 19-year-old Travis Parham and 42-year-old Wallace Morris, were pronounced dead on the scene.
This investigation is ongoing.
Memphis Police say the officer has been relieved of duty until the outcome of the investigation.
“Right as I was coming around the corner, I heard a large bang,” said Tristan Pittman, who witnessed the crash. “It sounded like a semi-truck or something and right as I was walking up, people were walking up too, I guess to help the people because they got thrown out of that grey car right there.”
