MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - One more nice day for the Mid South before a wet period in the forecast takes hold. Expect sunny conditions with highs in the low 80s today across the area thanks to high pressure.

However, this area of high pressure shifts east tomorrow, which will allow for moisture to return to the Mid-South ahead of an area of low pressure moving out of Texas. This will be the start of a wet pattern for the area as another system will come on the heels of this first system on Sunday.

The Storm Prediction Center maintains a Slight Risk of severe weather for portions of the Mid-South on Sunday.

Models suggests that most of the strongest storms should remain mainly along and south of the I-40 corridor.

The main threats would be heavy rain and damaging winds, and perhaps some small hail.

That system moves out and we catch a small break Monday before a cold front moves into the region late Monday night into Tuesday. This may pose a better threat for severe weather.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of WMC Action News 5 area in a Slight Risk of severe weather mainly for Monday night into Tuesday.

Rain chances will be back in the forecast Tuesday. The area could see upwards of 3 to 4 inches of rain across the Mid-South (potentially 4 to 5 inches across North Mississippi) over the next 7 days. We will have to watch this going forward. The bulk of that rain will fall Sunday and Tuesday.
