MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - On Giving Tuesday, the giving spirit is alive and well in the Mid-South tonight. Our annual food drive benefiting the Mid-South Food Bank started a couple of weeks ago.

It wrapped up tonight with an outpouring of generosity. You helped us raise more than $130,000!

For families in the WMC viewing area, the need for food is so much greater this year because of the pandemic. The Mid-South Food Bank is giving out 6 million pounds of food each month.

That’s three times more than in a normal year.

So your donation, no matter how big or small, matters.

”Well this money will go right out the door to provide meals for folks who need it right now. This is going to provide over 300-thousand meals,” said Cathy Pope, Mid-South Food Bank CEO.

WMC viewers made donations online.

Food and cash were dropped off at Cash Saver and Paragon Bank locations.

Our friends at Olympus Medical Company, Varco Pruden and local interfaith groups also chipped in.

You can still donate by logging onto https://www.midsouthfoodbank.org/ or on our Holiday Food Drive webpage.

You can also text “Hunger 2 Hope” to 26989.

You’ll receive a message with a link to the donation page.
