Memphis pastors, faith leaders organize prayer walk for justice and equality

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis pastors and faith leaders are gathered in Downtown Memphis for a Justice and Equality Prayer Walk.

The walk began at the National Civil Rights Museum and concluded at Memphis City Hall Saturday afternoon.

Protesters took time to kneel as they marched for 8 minutes and 46 seconds -- the duration of time a police officer held his knee of the neck of Minneapolis man George Floyd who died while in custody.

Pastors took turns praying with the group as they marched and once they reached city hall a praise and worship session filled the streets of Downtown Memphis.

Faith leaders were also joined by Shelby County and DeSoto County Clergy, congregations, law enforcement and elected officials.

As the protest came to an end, leaders expressed the importance of voting and showing up to the polls.
