Family attorneys release surveillance video of deadly shooting during alleged chainsaw theft

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The attorneys for the family of 33-year-old man who was killed last month while allegedly shoplifting have released new surveillance video surrounding his death.

Police say Charles Kalb, owner of Mid-South Small Engines, shot Lamorris Robinson in the back as he fled the store with a stolen chainsaw in hand.

Kalb was charged with first-degree murder and held on a $1 million bond.

Robinson leaves behind two sons, 3 and 4 years old.

Robinson’s family hired Howard Manis to represent the boys in a wrongful death lawsuit against Kalb.

Manis says he released the video, saying the community deserved to know what happened to Robinson.

“Lamorris Robinson can’t tell us what happened. Charles Kalb took that from him and took that from the family. So we have to put together the facts anyway we can and this video I think speaks volumes as to what happened in the parking lot,” he said.

Memphis Police say Kalb shot Robinson in the back with a sawed-off shot gun as he fled the store. In the video, Robinson is seen running from the store. Moments later he collapsed.

“It hurts me and my family to know that there are people out here who will kill other and don’t even care to help them,” said Latrice Greer, the mother of Robinson’s children.

Three minutes pass in the video before Memphis Police arrive on scene.

Robinson had been recently released from prison, out on supervised parole for a weapon charge.

“The bottom line is what he didn’t do is obvious. He didn’t even try to render aid. He was more concerned with picking up his chainsaw and walking away,” said Manis.

Kalb is due back in court next Friday for his felony charges. He is out right now on a million dollar bond and his attorney had no additional comment today.

Robinson’s family plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Kalb by the end of the week.
