JACKSON, Miss (WMC) - According to the Associated Press, Mississippi Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves will represent his party in the gubernatorial race in November.

Reeves won the Republican nomination during Tuesday’s runoff against former Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Bill Waller.

Reeves has 54 percent of the votes to Waller’s 46 percent.

“From the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your sweat. Thank you for your hard work. And most of all thank you for your prayers and let’s go win this thing in November,” said Reeves during his acceptance speech.

The Republican candidate has remained the odds-on favorite in the race for months and Tuesday’s results project that favor.

Reeves goes head-to-head with the Democratic nominee, Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood, in the general election.

Waller interviewed with WMC shortly after the results came in.
