MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A man was rushed to the hospital Sunday after police say he crashed his vehicle into a home, causing it to catch on fire.

Memphis Police responded to the crash around 6:51 p.m. on the corner of Springdale Street and Howell Avenue.

One witness described the moments leading up to the crash and how he ended up helping the driver.

“The black car swerved, the orange car pulled out in front of him. The black car swerved to keep from hitting it. Hit the sidewalk and went airborne, hit the pole and when it hit the house, the car was on fire,” he said. “The black car slid down and the guy was trying to get out. A guy came down from the apartment and he and I pulled him out and took him across the street.”

The man was taken to Methodist Hospital in non-critical condition.

No word if the second driver stayed on the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.
