MILLINGTON, TN (WMC) - Police say a woman has been injured in a shooting in Millington.

The woman’s 8-year-old son is allegedly responsible. Police confirm it was accidental.

“The juvenile believed it was a toy gun. He picked the gun up, pulled the trigger, and accidentally shot his mother," Millington Police Chief Mark Dunbar.

She was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The boy found the gun in a bag inside an antique car that was on display at the park.

Police say it happened at USA Stadium where the University of Memphis baseball team was playing UT Martin.

University of Memphis officials say the game is canceled. No one on either team was hurt.

The owner of the vintage car where the gun was found has been detained for questioning.

The USA Stadium website doesn’t allow pets, booze or coolers. The rules say nothing about bringing guns in to the stadium.

Chief Dunbar says gun owners must be vigilant.

“Secure your weapon if you have a weapon everybody’s got a right to carry it if you get a carry permit, but you need to use common sense and secure your weapons,” he said.

No charges have been filed in this incident, but Chief Dunbar says that could change depending on what their investigation turns up.
